The story behind the jewel

The iconic grigri bird foot, pearl and green tinted crystal in asymmetric harmony. In awe of nature’s infinite perfection, the ‘Voyages Naturalistes’ collection tries to grasp the everchanging and turn it into a wearable memory. Every Wouters & Hendrix piece is handmade by a team of goldsmiths in our Antwerp atelier. "Is it a magpie or a crow’s foot? We are not quite sure, and it doesn’t matter, because all birds fascinate us. Their delicate feet can carefully grab a pearl.... or in a less generous mood, sneak a golden necklace off to their nest! Like magpies filling their homes with shiny treasures, we collect trinkets, stories and inspirations in our top floor design studio in Antwerp. When we first talked about making a golden bird foot, we weren’t sure where to begin. How to make a mold of a living bird’s claw? Katrin’s mother overheard us and came back with a box filled with six baby chickens, helpfully suggesting we might kill one and use its feet to be cast for a mold. Bird lovers as we are, we politely declined and went to a taxidermist instead. A Wouters & Hendrix icon, our bird foot adorns necklaces, rings and earrings and delicately holding gemstones. And those six chicks? They still happily roam around Katrin’s backyard in Antwerp."

Sumptuous boxes with a black velvet pedestal accompany our jewellery. They are a beautiful way to present and keep every jewellery token of memorable moments safe and sound.
