Manifesto

Wouters & Hendrix is about blending craftsmanship and surprise since 1984. Born in an avant-garde moment, we bend the rules of traditional jewellery making and wearing. Subtle rebels with a love for surrealism, we are drawn to unexpected combinations of materials and techniques, gently adorning your body with tales in silver and gold. Our wearable sculptures, designed and handmade in our Antwerp atelier, help you express your own version of femininity. For you to know and for others to find out.

Biography

In the Orwellian year 1984, two very special animals left the farm. Katrin Wouters and Karen Hendrix both graduated from the famous Royal Academy of Fine Arts, section gold smithing, in Antwerp. Prompted by a shared dream to channel their kindled creativity in a jewellery brand, they started an intense collaboration. Even from days this early, their claim was eloquently stated: to produce jewellery that is elegant yet daring, intelligent and bold, exclusive as well as affordable. Wouters & Hendrix’ signature style was incubated against a background of punk and unbridled creativity. Together with the Antwerp Six, they took part in the British Designer Show in London in 1986. It was there and then that the Belgians’ striking collections and self-built trade stands attracted international attention, and the rise of Belgian fashion commenced. Until this time, creating a world that allows their jewellery to speak is pivotal for Wouters & Hendrix. From idiosyncratic collections with poetic names to surprising prints and artistic shop windows, we have been telling their story in an extraordinary way since the very beginning.
