The mussel. Plus Belge que ça, tu meurs. Belgian surrealist Marcel Broodthaers elevated these crafty molluscs to the status of art with his world famous ‘Mosselpot’. For him every single mussel was an artist in its own right because a mussel secretes its own shell, and creates itself in the process. The fact that mussels have no molds (“la moule n’a pas de moule”) was an eternal source of admiration and amusement to Broodthaers. And to us - which is why this symbol of stubborn authenticity in all its gilded glory is the centrepiece of a conspicuously secretive necklace.
