The story behind the jewel

The mussel. Plus Belge que ça, tu meurs. Belgian surrealist Marcel Broodthaers elevated these crafty molluscs to the status of art with his world famous ‘Mosselpot’. For him every single mussel was an artist in its own right because a mussel secretes its own shell, and creates itself in the process. The fact that mussels have no molds (“la moule n’a pas de moule”) was an eternal source of admiration and amusement to Broodthaers. And to us - which is why we turned this symbol of stubborn authenticity into a conspicously secretive pendant, that comes with an engravable medaillon. You can choose to have it engraved with your own handwritten message or select a quote handwritten by our founder Katrin Wouters, making it uniquely suited as a gift. A diamond awaits discovery within the valves. Hide or flaunt? Up to you!
